Once a year for a few months, the Weller lovers are in heaven.

William Larue Weller lived from 1825 to 1899.  He was among the early pioneers in Kentucky and is famous primarily for being the first to produce bourbon whiskey using wheat instead of rye.

There are several bourbons still being produced today under his name, wheat based bourbons bottled from 7 years old to 12 years old.

Chief among them is the William Larue Weller Limited Edition, 12-year old wheat-based bourbon, bottled barrel proof, uncut and unfiltered.  “Limited Edition” is not a marketing ploy; this excellent bourbon is bottled and released once a year in the Fall and usually sells out by Spring.

The 2009 bottling is a whopping 134.8 proof.  Please - add a splash of water to bring out the full flavor.  And get yours now; as in years past, it will be sold out by spring.

Another limited offering is the Jefferson’s Presidential Select Bourbon, bottled during the last years of production of Louisville’s renowned Stitzel-Weller Distillery. Bottled at 94 proof, this ultra-rare, ultra-premium, 17-year-old bourbon is a limited offering complementing the existing line of Jefferson’s bourbons, Jefferson’s and Jefferson’s Reserve.

Produced by what many consider to be history’s finest bourbon distillery, Stitzel-Weller, Jefferson’s Presidential Select is a truly superlative offering. Trey Zoeller, founder of McLain & Kyne, comments: “The discovery of these rare Stitzel-Weller barrels is a coup for bourbon connoisseurs everywhere, who will undoubtedly discover in Jefferson’s Presidential Select a spirit that more than lives up to the fine reputation of its distillery.” Approximately 2100 cases (six bottles per case) of the whiskey have been bottled at 94 proof.
